The outstanding mathematician, philosopher, astronomer Omar Khayyam (c. 1048 – c. 1123) was a great scientist who was ahead of his time in many ways. Even during his lifetime, he was called "Proof of the Truth." Only Avicenna was awarded the same title by medieval authors. Omar Khayyam was an indisputable authority: he was respected by ordinary people, rulers turned to him for advice, even during the time of disgrace, outstanding minds considered it an honor to be his disciples.
Five or six centuries earlier than European scientists who were not familiar with his works, Khayyam brought mathematical science to the theory of variable numbers, one of his mathematical works was based on a formula later called Newton's binomial. By order of Sultan Malik Shah, Omar Khayyam developed a new calendar (seven seconds more accurate than the current Gregorian calendar), which was never implemented.
